La Vera

La Vera

La Vera is situated in the north east corner of Extremadura on the south facing slopes of the Sierra de Gredos, the highest range in the region. It is an area of exceptional natural beauty encompassing wild mountain scenery, lush fertile valleys and the plain of the river Tiétar. The area has its own microclimate which makes it a paradise for those wanting to grow a bit of anything and everything. The higher terraced landscape is very picturesque and is famous for its profusion of cherries, raspberries, chestnuts, figs, kiwis etc while the river plain main crops are peppers (the paprika from La Vera is exported worldwide) and tobacco.

With this stunning backdrop, La Vera offers a paradise for nature lovers who seek wild unspoilt places, but with the advantage of all modern conveniences to be found in the majority of its villages and small towns, such as Jarandilla de la Vera and Jaraíz de la Vera. No matter which area of La Vera most attracts you, you will never be far from a large town like Talavera de la Reina, Navalmoral de la Mata or Plasencia, all of which have excellent hospitals, and services of every description.
